Historical background

1956

Marks the beginning of the transportation activities in Saint-Hyacinthe for M. Auré Goyette. With a transportation permit granting him the right to serve the Montreal area from Saint-Hyacinthe, Mr. Goyette then founded Goyette Transport Ltée.

1967

Establishment of Garage Maskoutain Ltée which ensures the maintenance and repair of all the vehicles in the fleet.

It is also during this period that Mr. Goyette’s children begin to show interest for the transportation industry. Between 1967 and 1969, four of them will become shareholders.

1973

Year in which Mr. Auré Goyette retires from active involvement in the company. His sons Jean-Louis, Gaston, Germain and Robert become active members and owners of the company. They establish Groupe Goyette Inc. and share the positions of president, vice-president and clerk-treasurer.

1979

HISTORIQUE-1
As a result of an improved commercialisation of its services combined with a new sales approach, the group experiences considerable growth which forces it to expand through the acquisition of new installations and build a new real estate complex in Saint-Hyacinthe’s industrial park.

Along with the company’s head office, the complex includes a modernized terminal, a more functional cross-docking station for loading and unloading and a new garage better equipped to fulfill the growing needs of GOYETTE TRANSPORT Ltée.

The company also seizes the opportunity and creates ENTREPOSAGE MASKA Ltée. Obviously convinced by the extent of the local demand, a 100 000 square feet warehouse is added to its complex, thereby attacking the commercial storage industry.

1980

GOYETTE TRANSPORT Ltée receives the authorization to extend its activities from Saint-Hyacinthe to the rest of Quebec. After which, the company experiences a significant increase in its business volume.

During the first half of the 80’s, the company will often rent warehouses to meet demand.

1985

The company acquires a 6 300 square feet building which is converted into an intermodal platform for cross-docking.

1986

Purchase of another warehouse in Saint-Hyacinthe with a surface area of more than 55 000 square feet.

1987

The company becomes public through an issue of shares under Stock Savings Plan (SSP) valued at 3 million dollars. The result of which was used to purchase NIL GIRARD TRANSPORT based in Lac Saint-Jean, representing the group’s first geographical diversification.

With its intermodal transhipment service, GROUPE GOYETTE Inc. and ENTREPOSAGE MASKA Ltée quickly acquire expertise and an enviable reputation, inducing the group to build their second cross-docking platform of 7 500 square feet.

1989

The company pursues its expansion by renting a 80,000 square feet warehouse in Boucherville.

1993

The group spreads its activities to the Mauricie region by building a warehouse of more than 50,000 square feet. One year later, additional storage space is needed and an other 25,000 square feet are added to the Shawinigan warehouse.

1994

Entreposage Maska adds to its range of services in becoming a regional distribution center for Canadian Tire at the Saint-Hyacinthe warehouse. Eventually, more than 10 million cubic feet of products are traded by our warehouse headquarters serving 132 stores.

1995

Expansion of the Saint-Hyacinthe cross-docking terminal which now totals more than 25,000 square feet, and the addition of a railway siding extension to facilitate, among other things, the transhipment of wood.

1997

Construction of a 42,000 square feet warehouse served by railway in Hebertville-Station.

M. Alain Caron, in partnership with the Caisse de Dépôt et de Placements du Québec, privatized the company following a takeover bid.

1998

The addition of 25,000 square feet in Shawinigan brings the total warehouse space for this location to 100,000 square feet, and also an addition of 20,000 square feet for Saint-Hyacinthe’s warehouse.

1999

Pursuing its geographical expansion of its network storage, a 50,000 square feet warehouse is built in Magog.

2000

Expansion of 40,000 square feet in Saint-Hyacinthe’s warehouse reaching an area of more than 200,000 square feet.

2003

Purchase of Alcan’s private fleet, with 16 trucks and 47 trailers being added to Groupe Goyette’s fleet.

2005

Acquisition of the majority stake of a transportation company, Les Entreprises de Transport P.A.G.inc. and its warehouse counterpart Transit P.A.G. inc.. They are located in the Saguenay region and specialized in open trailer transportation. They possess 25,000 square feet of storage with railway and truck accessibility for more convenience.

2006

Construction of a new 50, 000 square feet warehouse located in Longueuil and connected to the railway.

Acquisition of a new 32, 000 square feet warehouse in the Alma’s industrial park used for storage of industrial products

Expansion of Transit PAG Inc. with the addition of 25,000 square feet of warehouse space.

Celebration of Groupe Goyette’s 50 years of success via many special events spread throughout the year and one grand gala evening to close off the festivities

2007

60, 000 square feet expansion of the new warehouse on the South Shore of Montreal.

2008

Beginning of transhipment and transport of chemicals at our site in Hébertville-Station

2009

Technological advancement in our warehouses with the implementation of a new tool for inventory control using scanners.

2010

The Centre de formation en transport routier (CFTR) settles in the offices at the Saint-Hyacinthe headquarters to train future drivers

2013

Expansion of the railway at Longueuil’s warehouse to increase outdoor transhipment activities.

Alain Caron is elected on the Board of Directors of the Trucking association of Quebec.
